Free workshop on gravestone cleaning and repair Wednesday at Pine Hill Cemetery

WESTFIELD — Westfield Veterans Services and Pine Hill Cemetery will present a free gravestone preservation workshop 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2. Participants will meet at the chapel inside the cemetery’s main gate at 117 Court St., Westfield.

The workshop will be led by conservator Jonathan Appell of Atlas Preservation in Southington, Connecticut. Appell has started a 48-state tour to restore cemeteries. He will give a presentation at the start of the workshop, then participants will learn how to clean, repair and preserve gravestones.
